Hydrolates

Hydrolates (or aromatic waters) are obtained from the distillation of medicinal plants that are freshly harvested in order to preserve all their beneficial properties. Two substances are obtained from this distillation: hydrolate and essential oil. A hydrolate is the aqueous substance that is collected in a decantation still through a condensation process; an aromatic water that contains minimal amounts of the essential oil and its water-soluble molecules, therefore, partially preserving its properties.

A hydrolate can be used as a tonic in your facial cleansing routine and, in relation to the plant from which it is distilled, it can also be used as a lotion for oily or dry hair, in beauty masks, and also after-sun tonics to refresh and soothe your skin overall.
